When did you start CrossFit and why? Bailey – I had always been a little interested in CrossFit, but always thought it was to expensive. Last December when I was diagnosed with MS I told a bunch of people that because of this they would someday see me on tv doing a CrossFit competition (obviously joking). In June my mom started going to the gym, she told me how much she loved it, and of course after hearing my mom say that, it made me want to join. Ariel –I always wanted to join a CrossFit gym, but was always too afraid. One day my mom told me she was going to join and I finally brought myself to do it. After going to the intro class I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to do it. It kicked my butt! I love how competitive it can be. Especially when I am up against Bailey!
What are your short and long term goals with CrossFit? Bailey – My short term is to become comfortable working out, my long term would probably have to be to just have a healthier life, to benefit me later on. Ariel – My short term goal is to do an unassisted pull up. It’s been my goal since the beginning and I still haven’t been able to get it! My long term goal is to keep up a healthy and active life style. I don’t even know what I was doing before this. Everything I did seems so lazy compared to what I do at CFWV
Tell us your most memorable experience at CFWV? Bailey – My most memorable moment would be when I was experiencing a flare up from my MS, I was told that I shouldn’t work out during that time but I decided that I wanted to. It was probably the hardest and most emotional work out of my life. It made me proud of myself, and proud that I am apart of the West Valley family. Ariel –My most memorable experience at CFWV is probably the day I did my one armed handstand! I landed on my head a few times, but with the help of Coach Katie I was able to get it down.
Tell us all something we didn’t know about yourself. Bailey – I played college soccer at GCC, in my very last game in the playoffs I tore my ACL, and that is what ended my days of playing soccer. The reason I like CrossFit so much is because it reminds me of how it felt to be apart of a team again. Ariel – I know I have told some people at the gym, but I have a terrible fear of anything or anyone touching my collar bone. Even when I do power clean I’m terrified for the bar to land on it!
Any final comments for the members and or staff at CFWV? Bailey – I want everyone to know how much I appreciate them, I really feel like I am apart of a family when I walk through those doors. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging. Its what makes me keep coming back. Ariel –I just want to thank everyone at CFWV! You guys really are awesome and I don’t know where I would be without everyone there. I love meeting new people and forming relationships with all of you. Thank you CFWV! :)
